Sansevieria

Sansevieria is a genus of 60 species of native tropical and South African plants. They have leathery leaves and white or green flowers which are often not seen but may be if the plants are grown in a greenhouse.

S. cylindrica is a 3 feet plant which grows one inch thick cylindrical leaves.

The compost should be a mix of 2 parts loam, 1 part leafmould and one half part sharp sand. They are tolerant of long periods of drought and temperatures as low 10oC during the winter but can handle lower temperatures if the soil is kept dry.

Sansevieria trifasciata ‘Laurentii’, common name Mother-in-law Tongue, is a popular houseplant.
