Meconopsis is a genus of 40 species of poppy-like plants which are annual, biennial or perennial depending on the species.
You should use a woodland soil with leafmould then place in a location with some overhead shade. Sow seeds as soon as they are available in the autumn or spring.
They need plenty of water during the summer but should be kept dry in the winter. They perform better in more moist conditions than drier climates.
Meconopsis betonicifolia, below, common name Himalayan poppy.
