Santalum is a genus of 25 species of evergreen shrubs and trees from Australia, Malaysia and East Polynesia. The leaves are either fleshy or leathery, its flowers are in small panicles which are followed by small plum-like fruits. Santalum species are parasitic.

S. album, the Indian sandalwood tree, below, is perhaps the best known and commercially valuable species.
