Ruellia includes 200 species of mostly sub-shrubs known for their attractive flowers. Common name wild petunia.

R. formosa is a shrubs which reaches 2 feet, it has scarlet flowers and 1.5 inch leaves.

R. macrantha is a sub-shrub, it grows 3 feet and has flowers with a purple-pink color.

R. simplex (below) is an evergreen perennial growing 3 feet tall, with metallic blue to purple trumpet-shaped flowers.

Ruellia includes both annual and perennial varieties.

Ruellia should be grown in a greenhouse. During the winter a temperature above 13oC should be maintained and they should have plenty of access to light. In the spring and summer however they should be given a more shaded spot.
