This is a genus of 30 species of herbaceous plants from Northern Europe. They are perennial plants, best grown in an alpine house.

P.alpina grows to around a foot and produces blue buds with white insides. P.halleri is short at 10 inches, it has fine leaves and violet flowers.

When in cultivation, they can be grown in a light, open soil. However they can be sown in a sandy soil.

Place them with protection from wet climates seen during the winter.
