A genus of eight species of foliage plants from tropical west Africa. They are rarely grown outside of a botanic garden. The only species which is commonly cultivated is Nephthytis afzelii, this species has large leaves in the shape of an arrowhead and has long stems. They flowers have a green spathe about 2 inches long with a shorter greenish spadix. The fruit produced is an orange berry.


These plants should be located in a hot, moist greenhouse atmosphere. They have a minimum winter temperature of around 13oC. They perform best in a light and well-drained soil.
